UTAR students win Silver and Consolation prizes at EPSSCOM 2025

UTAR Engineering students recorded notable achievements at the 6th Electrical Power System Simulation Competition (EPSSCOM) 2025, held on 6 December 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The competition, organised by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Malaysia Chapter, provided a national platform for undergraduates to demonstrate their capabilities in power system modelling, simulation, and innovation.

EPSSCOM 2025 brought together teams from universities nationwide to showcase solutions aligned with this year’s theme, Transition to Low-Carbon Network, which highlights global decarbonisation efforts through electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy (RE), hydrogen (H₂), energy storage (ES), and related technologies.

UTAR teams secured one Silver Prize and two Consolation Prizes.

The Silver Prize worth RM1,500 was awarded to the team comprising Yap Yi Jie, Ng Yan Wen, Kuek Chi Chuen, Lee He Xian, and Tan Liam Chun.

Two UTAR teams also won Consolation Prizes worth RM500 each. The first team consisted of Tan Yee Qin, Lee Shao Hong, Koo Chen Feng, Tan Qing Xiang, and Wang Yu Chen. The second team comprised Liew Feng Fong, Lee Hui Shan, Lim Jun Wen, Tan Sze Yang, and Tan Wei Yee.

The students were guided and supported by their advisors, namely Assoc Prof Ir Dr Wong Jianhui, Ir Ts Dr Hau Lee Cheun and Assoc Prof Ir Dr Chua Kein Huat, academics from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science.

The competition aimed to nurture problem-solving skills among engineering undergraduates and promote the application of simulation tools in designing sustainable and efficient power systems. Through their participation, UTAR students demonstrated strong technical competency, creativity, and teamwork in addressing emerging challenges in the energy sector.

UTAR congratulates all participating teams on their commendable achievements and for bringing pride to the University.
