A team of dedicated students from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) emerged as the Champion of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024, under the Computing Track, on 3 December 2024 at Palm Garden, Cyberjaya.

The team consisted of three Computer Science students, Ng Shi Qi, Har Sze Hao and Liew Zheng Xian. They were accompanied by their instructor Dr Aun Yichiet, FICT Head of Programme for Master in Data Management and Analytics & Postgraduate Diploma in Data Management and Analytics. Their collective effort and expertise propelled them to claim the championship title. The team triumphed in the national round and will proudly represent Malaysia in the regional finals.
The Huawei ICT Competition, a global platform hosted by Huawei, seeks to identify and celebrate outstanding talent in information and communication technology. This year’s event focused on three tracks, namely Computing, Network and Cloud. The FICT team secured the top position in the Computing Track, showcasing their mastery of technical challenges related to Huawei’s OpenGauss and OpenEuler technologies.
For their achievement, the team was awarded four Huawei Matebook D16 laptops along with a trophy and certificates recognising their excellence.

Reflecting on the journey, the team shared their gratitude. “Last year, we were the first runner-up, and this year, we became the champion. This journey has taught us to try everything and keep trying. Our team came together with the right people at the right time, and this win is a proud moment for all of us. The Huawei ICT Competition has shown us how teamwork and persistence can lead to incredible achievements. Huawei’s unwavering support and vision have been the key to bridging the gap between learning and real-world impact, inspiring us to strive for even greater contributions to society,” said the team leader.
This victory highlights the significance of persistence and collaboration in achieving success. It is a testament to the team’s dedication and Huawei’s commitment to fostering innovation and talent in ICT.
