Best Paper Award at APACE 2024

Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training of the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), and his team won the Best Paper Award at the prestigious 2024 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics (APACE 2024). The conference took place from 21 to 23 December 2024 at Adya Hotel in Langkawi, Malaysia.

The award-winning paper, titled Application of Artificial Neural Networks for Accurate Non-Invasive In Vivo Glucose Determination with a Microwave Sensor, showcased a ground-breaking method for non-invasive glucose monitoring.
The paper explored the integration of artificial neural networks (ANNs) with microwave sensors to develop an accurate, non-invasive technique for determining in vivo glucose levels. The research could revolutionise glucose monitoring for diabetic patients by offering a more efficient alternative to traditional invasive methods. Furthermore, it highlighted the power of interdisciplinary collaboration between engineering and healthcare, demonstrating how electromagnetics can address critical medical challenges.

The paper was co-authored by Dr Lee, Dr Lee Yong Hong, Dr V. Gobi, and Prof Ts Dr Lim Eng Hock from UTAR LKC FES, in collaboration with Dr Cheng Ee Meng from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Dr You Kok Yeow from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Their work underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing real-world medical challenges, bridging the fields of engineering and healthcare.

APACE 2024, organised by the IEEE Malaysia AP/MTT/EMC Joint Chapter, served as a premier platform for researchers and industry professionals to exchange insights and innovations in applied electromagnetics. The conference featured cutting-edge research presentations, keynote sessions, and technical discussions, attracting participants from across the Asia-Pacific region.
