Wushu Club students strike Gold and Silver at 4th Legend of Dong Wu Wushu Competition

The spirit of wushu shines across global communities, and the UTAR community is no exception.

While promoting the essence of this traditional martial art, a group of students from the UTAR Kampar Wushu Club let their passion extend beyond the university grounds, earning a total of five gold medals and two silver medals at the 4th Legend of Dong Wu Wushu Competition @ CyberNeon 2025.

The award-winning athletes are as follows:

Held on 28 and 29 June 2025 at KSL Esplanade Mall, Selangor, the wushu competition was organised by Kelab Wushu Dong Bei Bei Cheras Kuala Lumpur and Dong Bei Bei Taijiquan Wushu Academy. With the theme CyberNeon, the event aimed to provide a competitive platform for athletes to showcase their skills, gain experience, and improve their performance.

Alongside his teammates, Chai Jun Yong regarded the competition as a meaningful platform to represent UTAR Kampar Wushu Club with pride. He also remarked, “UTAR has not only provided us with a nurturing environment for academic and extracurricular growth, but also supported us financially by covering the competition registration fee. This support made it possible for us to participate in the competition and give our best performance without financial concerns.”

Echoing Chai’s gratitude, Kerk Chiong Phui also expressed his appreciation to the University and his peers. He said, “My experience studying in UTAR has played a significant role in this achievement. The University promotes a balanced lifestyle that encourages students to pursue both academic and extracurricular excellence. Moreover, the UTAR Kampar Wushu Club, with its dedicated coaches and supportive members, has provided me with the training and motivation needed to perform at my best.”

Leong Kar Hou and Khu Yu Hang also conveyed their appreciation and joy upon receiving their awards. Leong enthused, “I’m grateful for the support from my teammates and coaches. This experience has made me stronger, both mentally and physically.”

Khu commented, “Winning this medal means a lot to me. All the hard work and training have finally paid off.”

As the UTAR Kampar Wushu Club celebrates yet another outstanding feat in its mission to preserve and promote the beauty of wushu, the team’s success continues to inspire the University and the wider community. With passion, support, and resilience, these athletes showed that students can thrive not only in their academic pursuit but also in chasing personal aspirations beyond the classroom.
