Basketball enthusiasts gathered at the “Xue Xihan Coach Cup” All Perak Basketball Open Tournament 2025 to cheer on some of the best players from the region. The tournament provided a platform for players to showcase their skills, strengthen networks, and elevate the profile of basketball in Perak. Held from 24 May to 6 July 2025 in Sitiawan, Perak, the tournament was organised by the Perak Basketball Association (Manjung Branch).
Beyond celebrating basketball talent, the tournament also aimed to promote basketball in Perak, nurture new talent, and strengthen community ties through the competition. It was an opportune platform for the basketball players to cultivate teamwork, strategy-planning, and effective communication, as they demonstrated strong sportsmanship.
UTAR Kampar’s men’s team registered in the men’s open category, competing against well-prepared opponents from different regions. The team consisted of Bong Jun Chiu, Boo Wei Lun, Chang Wei Xiang, Chen Wei Han, Lai Chin Lek, Lim Zai Win, Phoon Lit Foong, Puk Hong Yew, Sin Kee Kang, Tan Yit Rui, Tham Kah Bao, and Yap Kai Wen.
The event kicked-off with preliminary rounds, followed by knockout stages that tested not only technical skills but also endurance, adaptability and mental strength.
The team demonstrated consistent performance, strategic gameplay, and strong team cohesion, which made a notable impact throughout the tournament. They made a comeback in the quarterfinals, testifying their resilience and determination, and continued to showcase impressive bench strength and tactical flexibility – adapting effortlessly under pressure.
Their efforts earned them a fourth-place finish, recognised during the official closing ceremony, which was attended by local dignitaries and sports officials. The team received a trophy and an RM800 cash prize.
Team Captain Bong expressed, “We are proud of our achievement, and I’m proud of my team. I’ve witnessed the effort and commitment each player brought to the court every single game. We faced some tough opponents, but that only made us stronger. We stayed united and pushed our limits. Regardless of the award, we value the experience. It brought us closer together and gave us the motivation to improve. So we’re happy to have gained valuable lessons, and the motivation to improve.”
