Dr Kaur Kirandeep with the award
Dr Kaur Kirandeep Kulwant from the M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MK FMHS) clinched both the prestigious Gold Award and a Special Award (Runner-up for Best Project) at the iNVENTX 2025 competition, held on 21 July 2025 at Dewan Tun Canselor, Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya.
The award-winning project, titled DysphoSense, was developed in collaboration with Dr Manjit Singh Sidhu and Nur Atiqah Abdul Latib from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). DysphoSense is a pioneering AI-driven solution designed to raise awareness and provide support for voice health, a critical yet often overlooked aspect of medical care.
iNVENTX 2025 aimed at promoting innovation and collaboration among academia, industry, and government. It provided a platform for researchers, students, and entrepreneurs from various institutions to showcase innovative solutions with potential societal and economic impact. The event featured multiple tracks, including Computing & Informatics, Engineering & Industrial Design, Education & Social Science, Digital Creative & Cinematic Arts, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr Kaur shared, “We saw the competition as a platform to bring attention to voice health. Our goal was to create awareness and promote a simple, AI-driven solution that can make a real difference. This achievement is not just about winning, but about putting voice health on the map and showing that meaningful innovation can come from local academic efforts.”
The team received an e-certificate for the Gold Award and an e-certificate with a cash prize of RM100 for the Special Award. The recognition not only affirms the scientific merit of their work but also opens new opportunities for research funding and collaboration, particularly in applying metaverse platforms to enhance medical education in Malaysia.
