UTAR proudly celebrates the achievement of its alumnus, Lim Wei Tatt, who was awarded the prestigious Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Gold Medal Award during the 66th IEM Annual Dinner & Awards Night on 19 April 2025 at the Sunway Resort Hotel. This national accolade recognises the most exemplary graduating engineering students from accredited Malaysian universities, honouring excellence in academic performance and leadership in engineering initiatives.
A 2024 graduate of the Bachelor of Electronics Engineering with Honours programme at the Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT), Lim demonstrated consistent academic brilliance by achieving First Class Honours. His academic accolades include placements on the President’s List for seven trimesters and the Dean’s List for three, as well as the Book Prize Award and the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) Award.
Lim’s engineering expertise was evident in two notable projects: an Automated Monitoring & Regulating IoT Hydroponic System, featuring custom hardware and C++ software integration with ESP32 microcontrollers, and a 5-DOF Robotic Arm via Ultraleap’s Hand-Tracking Camera, which combined C++ and Python development for motion-responsive control. These parallel undertakings underscored his proficiency in both hardware and software systems.
His leadership and co-curricular engagement further distinguished him as an all-rounded graduate. Notably, Lim served as vice president of AIESEC in UTAR, managing partnerships and projects involving multiple universities. He also participated in the Tech 4 Good Challenge 2023 and the Huawei Sales Elite Challenge, and played a key role in organising and leading the UTAR City Tour.
Upon receiving the award, Lim shared, “I am honoured and grateful for this recognition. It reflects not just my journey, but the unwavering support from my family, the dedication of my lecturers especially my advisor Ts Dr Lee Han Kee and the values instilled by UTAR.” He described the award as a milestone in his ongoing journey of learning, innovation, and resilience.
Lim’s achievement exemplifies UTAR’s commitment to academic excellence and the development of ethical, skilled, and industry-ready graduates. His journey resonates with the University’s mission to cultivate talents who will contribute meaningfully to the nation and beyond.Lim (right) receiving the award
