Academics from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) were recognised for their outstanding contributions to engineering research, supervision, and professional engagement during recent events organised by The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). At the IEM Annual General Meeting (AGM), LKC FES staff members received multiple prestigious awards in recognition of their excellence in research and mentorship.
Ir Prof Dr Khoo Hooi Ling was awarded the Tan Sri Hj Yusoff Ibrahim Prize under the General and Other Category for her research paper titled A New Capacity Model for Malaysian Urban Roads Using Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram and Multiple Linear Regression Approach. Her study introduces a novel modelling approach that integrates macroscopic traffic flow theory with statistical methods, offering a more accurate and adaptable framework for assessing urban road capacity in Malaysia. Her work is expected to contribute significantly to improving traffic planning and infrastructure development in urban settings.

Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Siong Kang received the Tan Sri Hj Yusoff Ibrahim Prize in the Civil Category for his research paper titled Strength Properties of Lightweight Foam Concrete with Steel Fibre. His research focused on enhancing the structural performance of lightweight concrete through the incorporation of steel fibres, a technique with promising applications in sustainable construction and civil engineering. The findings are set to benefit both academia and industry by advancing eco-friendly and efficient building materials.
Meanwhile, in the domain of student mentorship, Dr Ong Chuan Fang was recognised with the Excellence Supervision for Best Student Final Year Project Prize. The award was given in acknowledgement of his supervision of student Lim Sian Ping, whose project, titled Microscopic Simulation of Signalized Intersections During Peak Hour stood out for its innovation and practical relevance in traffic simulation and urban planning.
