UTAR has achieved a landmark recognition on the global stage, earning the prestigious 5 Plus Stars in the QS Stars Rating 2025 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a global authority on higher education evaluation.
This elite rating, the highest distinction awarded under the QS Stars system places UTAR among an exclusive group of world-class institutions that demonstrate excellence across all major criteria. The 5 Plus Stars rating is an affirmation of UTAR’s steadfast commitment to academic distinction, holistic institutional growth, and impactful global engagement.

UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat lauded the achievement, stating, “Earning 5 Plus Stars places UTAR on the global map of academic excellence. It is a symbol of the quality, integrity, and passion that drive our university. This rating validates the tremendous efforts of our academic, research, and administrative communities in shaping UTAR as a university of global repute.”
He added, “This recognition goes beyond accolades. It reflects our values, our vision, and our unwavering pursuit of excellence. We are proud to contribute meaningfully to the national and global higher education landscape.”
A celebratory event was held on 19 May 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus, with university leaders, staff, and key stakeholders in attendance. The QS Stars Rating evaluates universities on a detailed framework that extends beyond traditional rankings, offering a holistic view of institutional strengths. UTAR’s top-tier recognition underlines its role as a leading institution dedicated to quality education, impactful research, and transformative community service.
