UTAR proudly congratulates Dr Kaur Kirandeep Kulwant, an academic from the M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MK FMHS), for her remarkable double achievement at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2025. She was part of two winning innovation teams that earned both Gold and Silver Awards in separate international innovation categories.
The Gold Award, in the subcategory “Globalization of Education” under the “Human Capital” category, was presented for the project titled Technology Assisted Problem Solving MetaMorph Lab, a collaborative innovation between Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and UTAR. The team members comprised Prof Ts Dr Manjit Singh Sidhu, Ms Sara Mousakhani, Dr Kirandeep, Mr Zaimah Hassan, and Mr Adzly Anuar.
The project explores the use of adaptive, technology-driven learning systems to enhance problem-solving skills, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting quality education through innovation.
Dr Kirandeep, who served as co-supervisor to the postgraduate student leading the project, expressed her gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the team’s shared commitment to advancing adaptive learning through technology-enabled solutions. She said, “We are deeply grateful for this recognition and the opportunity to advance this discourse.”
In addition to the Gold Award, Dr Kirandeep also achieved a Silver Award in the MTE 2025 – Advanced Healthcare and Life Sciences International Innovation Awards (AHLS). The award-winning innovation, titled OtoVision XR, is an Extended Reality (XR) tool designed for anatomy learning among medical undergraduates, with potential expansion to other medical subjects in the future. The project aims to enhance medical education through immersive, technology-based learning experiences.
The team members of this project were Prof Ts Dr Manjit Singh Sidhu and Mr Avin Mahajan from UNITEN, along with Prof Dr John Paul Evangel Judson and Dr Kirandeep Kaur from UTAR. The project was supervised by Prof Manjit Singh, with Dr Kirandeep and Prof Judson serving as content experts who reviewed the medical and educational components of the XR tool.
