LKC FES academics sweep Best Presenter Awards at CENVIRON 2025

Three academics from UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) made the University proud when they each won a Best Presenter Award at the 8th International Conference on Civil and Environmental Engineering (CENVIRON 2025), held from 19 to 20 August 2025 at Yannaty Hotel, Hat Yai, Thailand.

Organised by the Centre of Excellence for Water Research and Environmental Sustainability Growth (WAREG), in collaboration with the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Technology, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), CENVIRON 2025 carried the theme Emergence of Sustainable Technology Towards Minimizing Environmental Impacts. The conference served as a global platform for researchers, professionals, and academics to exchange knowledge and present solutions in areas such as sustainable construction, green materials, hydrology, geotechnics, transportation, pollution control, and water and wastewater treatment.

The winners were Gs Dr Lee Yee Ling for her presentation titled Eco-Friendly Lightweight Foamed Concrete; Dr Sim Lan Ching for her presentation titled Copper Vanadate Quantum Dots and Graphitic Carbon Nitride Composite for Water Disinfection; Ts Dr Shuit Siew Hoong for his presentation titled Packed Bed Column for Methyl Orange Removal: Regeneration and Reusability Study.

Sharing her thoughts, Dr Lee said, “Attending CENVIRON 2025 was a meaningful experience that allowed me to share my research and learn from fellow researchers. The discussions and insights I gained have provided valuable perspectives to improve my work. Winning the Best Presenter Award is a great honour and a motivating recognition of my efforts, and I am deeply grateful to my university and peers for their continuous support.”

Dr Sim remarked, “It was an honour to be part of CENVIRON 2025 and to receive the Best Presenter Award. The conference offered a valuable platform to share my research on antibacterial strategies using photocatalysts and to engage with researchers working on innovative solutions for environmental and public health challenges. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute and to be inspired by the vibrant exchange of ideas throughout the event.”

Dr Siew added, “It was an honour to represent UTAR at the 8th International Conference on Civil and Environmental Engineering. The conference provided an excellent platform to share my research on sustainable wastewater treatment and to engage with international peers working on similar challenges. Winning the Best Presenter Award is a humbling recognition, and I am truly grateful to the faculty and the university for their support in making this possible.”

The achievement not only underscores the high calibre of research conducted by UTAR staff but also highlights the University’s commitment to promoting impactful solutions in sustainability, environmental protection, and engineering innovation.
