UTAR PR students win Top 1 Award at We.R.Wira Season 3

A group of Public Relations students, known as UTAR Social Media for PR, achieved an outstanding milestone by winning the Top 1 Award in the Top 3 Category at the We.R.Wira Season 3 – Golden Wira Ceremony, held on 18 September 2025 at MMU Cinema, MMU Cyberjaya. Their video project, titled Hands of Hope, was recognised for its exceptional social impact and excellence in video production.

The Golden Wira Ceremony, part of the We.R.Wira Season 3 programme, celebrated creativity, innovation and community impact among university students. The Top 3 Category was particularly significant as it showcased projects that went beyond creative expression to deliver meaningful contributions to society.

The award-winning video Hands of Hope was produced by a dedicated team of UTAR Public Relations students, namely Soo Wei Wei, Low Jun Xuan, Chai Jun Ming, Leong Chi Cheng, Wong Yong Qi, Tan Shang Ming, Chan Likwei and Sin Li Yiing. Their teamwork, creativity and commitment to storytelling played a central role in the project’s success.

Team representative Soo said, “Winning this award felt truly surreal for us. We started this project with the hope of creating something meaningful, but to see our work recognised among so many talented teams was very encouraging. We were even happier knowing that these heroes’ remarkable stories could be heard by more people. The process was challenging but very rewarding, and we learned the importance of teamwork, resilience and believing in our message.”

This victory also marked a progression from Season 2, when the UTAR team’s video Guardian of the Future won the Popular Vote Award and Honourable Mention Award at the Golden Wira Ceremony in 2024. While last year’s recognition reflected the audience’s appreciation, this year’s win underscored the judges’ recognition of the students’ impactful storytelling, technical quality and commitment to raising awareness of social issues.

Social Media for PR lecturer Ms Audrey Anak John said, “We could not believe we won this top category, as there were many strong contenders in Season 3, but we are glad we made it. The students put in a great deal of effort in producing this video; they are truly wonderful. We would like to extend our appreciation to CentriqPR, especially the We.R.Wira founder Ms Jacqueline Arnold, for this opportunity, as well as to the panel of judges who recognised the causes and the work we put into this video. Thanks also to the Department of Public Relations for their support.”
