Since the birth of the 24 Festive Drums, the musical phenomenon has continued to captivate the world with its elegant and sonorous vigour—a spirit inspired by not only its passionate creators, Mr Tan Chai Puan and the late Mr Tan Hooi Song, but also by the ancient lunisolar calendar. This spirit lives in every drummer and extends to the members of the UTAR Sungai Long Campus 24 Festive Drums Unit.
Though their award-winning piece asked “Me?”, the team’s bronze triumph spoke volumes of their joy and unity
Gleaming among the local talents, the UTAR Sungai Long Campus 24 Festive Drums Unit won a Bronze Award at the National Intra-Varsity Festive Drums Competition 2025, organised by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) 24-Festive Drums on 21 December 2025.
The Bronze Award was a shared effort by 13 drummers from the UTAR Sungai Long Campus 24 Festive Drums unit, who performed their original piece titled “Me?” (我?), earning them a cash prize of RM300. As shared by the winning unit, 20% of the cash prize will be donated to the UTAR Student Welfare Fund.
The national competition, held at SJKC Bukit Beruang, Melaka, attracted various 24 Festive Drums teams from local universities, including Multimedia University (MMU), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT).
“The performance of our unit at the National Intra-Varsity Festive Drums Competition 2025 marked a notable accomplishment,” remarked the UTAR Sungai Long Campus 24 Festive Drums Unit.
They added, “The competition was lively, eventful, and educational for the drummers who participated. It served as a valuable platform for our drummers, helping to enhance their performance skills. Beyond that, the display of teamwork and dedication highlighted the core strengths of our unit, which contributed significantly to our successful performance.”

The 24 Festive Drums are all about encapsulating passion through the wisdom and heritage of our forebears. As the competition concluded, the laughter, joy, and pride displayed by the 11-year-old UTAR Sungai Long Campus 24 Festive Drums Unit reflected the perseverance and cultural devotion cultivated through disciplined training.
