Exemplifying the values of ethical leadership and academic excellence, UTAR alumna Preethina R Nagenthiran was awarded first runner-up at the MAICSA Young Governance Professionals (YGP) Awards 2025. The award ceremony, hosted by the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA), took place on 7 November 2025 at M Resort & Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
Preethina, who graduated in May 2023 with a Master of Business Administration (Corporate Governance) from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management, currently serves as Assistant Manager (Legal) at Guardian Health and Beauty Sdn Bhd. Her success in this national competition marks a significant milestone in her early career and highlights her strong foundation in corporate governance and legal practice.
The YGP Award is an esteemed platform aimed at nurturing the next generation of governance leaders. Participants engaged in a series of case study assessments, where they were required to analyse complex corporate governance scenarios and propose actionable solutions. The competition emphasised core principles such as accountability, integrity, and resilience—qualities that Preethina demonstrated with distinction throughout the various stages.
In recognition of her outstanding performance, Preethina received a cash prize of RM4,000 along with professional benefits, including complimentary access to MAICSA updates and discounted training opportunities. She expressed her deep appreciation to UTAR for the academic and moral support provided throughout her journey.
“I am truly honoured to have had the opportunity to participate in the Young Governance Professionals Awards 2025,” she shared. “This journey has been a remarkable learning experience that deepened my understanding of governance and its vital role in shaping responsible and sustainable organisations. My sincere appreciation goes to UTAR and to my lecturers, whose mentorship enabled me to translate theoretical knowledge into real-world applications.”
She also extended thanks to Wezmart International Berhad for their sponsorship and to all those who supported her achievement. Reflecting on the experience, she noted that the competition reinforced her conviction that good governance is not just a theoretical concept, but a daily practice essential for long-term organisational success and social responsibility.
