UTAR signs pact with HKU

UTAR achieves another milestone in creating an international footprint by partnering with The University of Hong Kong

 PETALING JAYA [8 November 2008]: Centre for Extension Education, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and School of Professional and Continuing Education, The University of Hong Kong sealed a memorandum of understanding in a hotel here.

Signing the MoU were Dr. Prudence Goh Eam Cheng, director of CEE of UTAR and her counterpart, Prof. C F Lee, director of SPACE of HKU. Witnessing the signing were YABhg Tun Dr. Ling Liong Sik, UTAR Council Chairman and YBhg Ir. Professor Dato' Dr Chuah Hean Teik, UTAR President.

The MoU signing ceremony, which was in conjunction with the public seminar and forum entitled 'Three Gorges Dam', was also witnessed by some 200 participants attending the seminar. The seminar was declared open by Tun Ling, who was the guest-of-honour. Prof. Lee, who was a consultant for the dam project in China, was the presenter in the seminar.

In his opening speech, Tun Dr. Ling expressed, 'It is outstanding to know that UTAR has gone international. The University has ventured into collaborations with several universities and institutions worldwide. Today's MoU with the School of Professional and Continuing Education of The University of Hong Kong marks another milestone for UTAR in creating an international footprint as well as to share and to grow.'

According to Ir. Professor Dato' Dr Chuah, who was also addressed at the ceremony, the MoU would spearhead collaborative efforts to initiate exchanges and study visit programmes by postgraduate and undergraduate students between UTAR and HKU. Prof. Chuah also pointed out that the MoU would underpin future developments for UTAR and HKU in the areas of discovering new teaching and learning technologies.

The unique partnership would enable the sharing of knowledge and expertise for both universities to progress in the areas of research and development as well as in academic development and exchanges.

The partnership would also create new and exciting opportunities for staff development through the practise of beneficial activities such as the conduct of staff exchange programmes.

Besides that, both universities would further embark on ambitious joint academic activities such as in organising conferences, workshops, publications and seminars.

CEE of UTAR and SPACE of HKU are both centres committed to providing learning opportunities for people from all walks of life to achieve personal, professional and career advancement through the assistance of lifelong learning programmes.
