In the efforts of continuously maintaining and improving the quality of its
academic programmes, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) recently welcomed
Professor Dato' Dr. Mansor Bin Md Isa , External Examiner of the UTAR
Finance degree programme for a two-day visit on 23 to 24 June 2009 to UTAR
Petaling Jaya Campus and UTAR Sungai Long Campus to review and further
enhance the UTAR Finance programme.
Prof. Mansor is a Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance and
Banking under the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University of Malaya
, Kuala Lumpur . He has edited, authored and co-authored several academic
publications including books and journals on financial and financial related
topics.
During his visit to UTAR Petaling Jaya Campus, Prof. Mansor was introduced
to UTAR senior officials and briefed on the admission, examination and
assessment processes, as well as the multimedia and computing facilities at
UTAR. He was also briefed on the research centers, workshops and seminars
developed at UTAR.
At UTAR Sungai Long Campus, Prof. Mansor was familiarised with the overall
administration and management of the UTAR Finance degree programme. He also
managed to observe the UTAR final year Finance students during their class
activities.
He enthused, "Through my observation, I found the students to be very active
in their class participation. Their active participation during class
discussions reflected that they were indeed very well focused in their
class."
On commenting on the UTAR's Finance programme, Prof. Mansor said, "The UTAR
Finance programme is a well developed and specialised programme that trains
students to become experts in finance."
"Graduates from this programme have a bright career future as they may
choose to work in the broad area of finance such as in capital market, stock
exchange, banks and in other financial related areas."
He added, "A very strong factor of the UTAR Finance degree programme is that
the University conducts their classes in reasonably small groups. Hence,
this allows the lecturers to interact more effectively with their students
to ensure that their students get good teaching and training throughout
their entire degree programme."
"Apart from that, the programme also incorporates an industrial training
component that requires students to attach themselves to work for an
organisation for a period of time. I feel that this is a good component as
it gives the students the opportunity gain first hand experience in working
and in interacting with corporate people. This valuable experience will help
to change the students' perception in problem-solving and also help them to
improve their self-confidence and communication skills."
Prof. Mansor's visit to UTAR ended with a meeting with UTAR President Ir.
Professor Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik at UTAR Petaling Jaya Campus.
