UTAR and MMU Collaborate to Advance Education and Research

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Multimedia University (MMU) achieved another milestone in their inter-institutional collaboration efforts when both parties marked their alliance with a document exchange ceremony held in UTAR Perak Campus in Kampar on 3 June 2010.

The ceremony saw UTAR President Ir. Professor Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik exchanging the Memorandum of Understanding with MMU Vice President (R & D) Professor Dr. Tou Teck Yong, who represented MMU President Professor Dr. Zaharin Yusoff.

MMU Chancellor Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah graced the significant event as the Guest of Honour. She was received by UTAR Council Chairman Tun Dr. Ling Liong Sik, Toh Puan Ena Ling, Advisor to UTAR Planning & Development Committee Tan Sri Hew See Tong, Prof. Chuah, UTAR senior staff and students.

The event started with a video presentation titled, "UTAR Perak Campus: From Tin Mines to Modern Campus" that highlighted the development of UTAR from a vast ex-tin mining land to a full-fledged university campus with modern facilities and a conducive environment for academic and research pursuits.

In his welcoming speech, Prof. Chuah said, "Today's exchange of MoU establishes closer relationship between UTAR and MMU that will spark a plethora of synergistic opportunities in research and academic engagement."

Prof. Chuah stressed, "The resulting synergy of leveraging strengths, complementarities and intellectual diversity between UTAR and MMU will further contribute towards the advancement of a knowledge-based and innovation driven economy."

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Tou said there would be a lot of common ground that UTAR and MMU could work on for mutual benefit. He added that the formation of synergistic links between UTAR and MMU would provide an exciting platform to capitalize on the strengths of respective institutions and work towards integration of related activities.

Also present to witness the ceremony were senior officials from MMU.
