Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is establishing an endowed chair in
civil engineering with an annual contribution of RM250,000 for five years
from Brunsfield Engineering Sdn Bhd. The agreement between the two parties
to set up the endowed chair was sealed at a signing ceremony held on 18
March 2010 at the University's Petaling Jaya Campus.
The agreement was signed by UTAR President Ir. Professor Dato' Dr. Chuah
Hean Teik and BRUNSFIELD Director En. Mohamad Hassan Zakaria Witnesses for
the agreement were UTAR Registrar Dr. Tan Kee Kong and another BRUNSFIELD
Director Mr. Goh Siew Chin.
Also present at this momentous event were UTAR Education Foundation Board of
Trustees Chairman Tan Sri Dato' Lau Yin Pin, BRUNSFIELD Group Managing
Director Dato' Dr. Ir. Gan Thian Leong, members of UTAR Education Foundation
Board of Trustees and representatives from Brunsfield Group.
The Chair, named "Brunsfield Professor of Civil Engineering" would be set up
at the Faculty of Engineering and Science in UTAR Kuala Lumpur Campus in
Setapak, involves the appointment of a Professor to hold the Chair to
conduct research and development activities in civil engineering.
The establishment of the Chair serves the primary objective of developing
and achieving excellence in research, development, education and training in
the field of civil engineering.
In addition, the Chair aims to establish and complement a stronger pool of
expertise consisting of both academia and industrial representatives in the
field of civil engineering to provide consultancy.
On Brunsfield's collaboration with UTAR, Prof. Chuah said, "It shows that
the industry has the confidence in UTAR and it also shows that UTAR is
collaborating with the industry to ensure that our degree programmes and our
syllabus will be in line with what the industry needs."
In his speech, UTAR President also conveyed the University's appreciation of
the support given by Brunsfield for the establishment of the endowed chair.
BRUNSFIELD Group Managing Director Dato' Dr. Ir. Gan Thian Leong, in his
speech at the ceremony, said, "Brunsfield is indeed proud to be a partner
with UTAR to be part of the team for advancing engineering education and
research excellence."
At the end of his speech, Dato' Dr. Ir. Gan said, "Let us work together to
build Malaysia 's competitiveness and productivity to achieve a developed
nation".
