A delegation of seven from Anna University, Chennai, India, led by its Vice
Chancellor Dr. P Mannar Jawahar, came a visiting for the first time to
Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) on 19 January 2010 to identify common
grounds and explore opportunities and avenues for collaboration.
Other delegates who accompanied the VC of the Indian university were Mrs.
Jewelcy Jawahar (International Affairs Advisor and wife of the VC), Dr. K
Shanmuga Sundaram (Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering and
Personal Secretary to the VC), Prof. Dr. Krishnan Bhaskar (Director of
Centre for International Affairs), Dr. V Murugesan (Director of Centre for
Research), Dr. V Rhymend Uthariaraj (Ramanujan Computer Centre Director),
and the VC's eldest son, Nishant Jawahar.
They met with UTAR President Ir. Prof. Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik; Vice
President (Internationalisation & Academic Development) Prof. Dr. Ewe Hong
Tat; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Assoc. Professor Dr.
Wang Chan Chin; Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical &
Electronic Engineering, Dr. Ezra Morris Abraham Gnanamuthu; and Head of the
Department of Internationalisation and Institutional Relations, Cheong Chew
Seong at UTAR Petaling Jaya Campus
The meeting kicked off with Prof. Chuah welcoming the visitors to the
University and introducing UTAR officials who were at the meeting to the
visitors. Likewise, Dr Jawahar introduced himself and members of the
delegation from Anna University after thanking UTAR for the reception.
The delegation was then shown a 10-minute video on the development of UTAR
with highlights of some significant milestones and achievements of its
community members. After that Dr. Jawahar orally gave the meeting an
overview of Anna University,stressing its strength in engineering and
technology education.
After a brief discussion, the meeting agreed that defining specific areas of
collaboration and partnership between UTAR and Anna University could be made
through correspondence between the universities thereafter.
The meeting ended with an exchange of souvenirs and a group photo taking
session.
