A delegation from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of
China (UESTC) visited Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Petaling Jaya
Campus on 19 November 2012.
The members of the delegation comprised International Student Affairs
Section Chief, Lin Min, Director of Present Teaching Affairs Office of the
Graduate School, Tian Mi, and the School of Management and Economics
assistant professor, Sherry Shen Ruichen.
On hand to receive the first-time visitors were UTAR Division of Community
and International Networking Director, Dr Tan Sin Leng, Centre for Extension
Education Director, Lim Guat Yen and the Division of Corporate Communication
and Institutional Research Deputy Director, Ong Soo Weon.
The main aim of the visit was to identify common grounds and explore
opportunities and avenues for collaboration between the two institutions,
which include in-bound and out-bound student exchange programmes, summer
camps, training and suitable short courses such as English Language
proficiency and Eco-tourism short courses for students.
UESTC (formerly Chengdu Institute of Radio Engineering) is renowned as
China's cradle for the national electronic industry and is situated at
Chengdu, the city of over a thousand-year-old cultural history.
UESTC was established on the basis of the integration of electronic division
of three universities including Jiaotong Universities, Nanjing Institute of
Technology and South China Institute of Technology in 1956. As one of the
seven earliest key universities in national defense, UESTC became one of the
nation's key universities in 1960.
