Malaysian Prime Minister's Special Envoy to China Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting officiated the opening of the UTAR-Huawei Networking Lab at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Perak Campus on 17 October 2012.
Also present at the ceremony were UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato' Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Huawei Vice President of South Pacific Region Enterprise Business Group Mr Tony Zhang Hui and Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) Chief Operating Officer Ms Ng Wan Peng.
"Of the 10 Huawei University Training Labs, I am glad to say that UTAR is the first to set it up. This strongly reflects the seriousness and superior speed of UTAR in executing a project when compared with its peers," said Tan Sri Ong.
Tan Sri Ong also presented the Huawei Certified Datacomm Associate Certificate to 27 Information and Communication Technology students who have completed the Huawei Certified Datacomm Associate Certification Examination recently.
"The UTAR-Huawei Networking Lab will enable our students to have not only theory classes on the latest knowledge on ICT, but also the hands-on practical experience to acquire the latest ICT skills. The acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills complement each other and strengthen each other, hence improving the competency of UTAR ICT students so that they are better prepared for the industry," said Prof Chuah, adding that Huawei would also facilitate the internship placements of UTAR students and job placements of UTAR graduates in Huawei group's of companies and their partner companies worldwide.
The UTAR-Huawei Networking Lab is part of the Talent Roadmap 2020 under the Government's Economic Transformation Programme to propel the country to be a high-income economy by 2020. Huawei is collaborating with MDeC in developing ICT professionals to meet the human capital demand of Malaysia, which includes the setting up of Huawei University Training Labs with 10 local universities. UTAR is one of the 10 selected universities and the UTAR-Huawei Networking Lab is the first Huawei University Training Lab to be set up in Malaysia.
