project leaders and lecturers Dr Subramaniam Gurusamy and Vicky Wong;
Biotech Applied Research Group assistant manager, Dr Mark Richards; and
Bioinformatics Group assistant manager, Dr Kong Wai Ming for a reciprocal
visit to UTAR Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences on 13 March 2013.
They were received by faculty Dean Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng, Deputy
Dean Prof Dr Yap Sook Fan, Prof Dr Choo Kong Bung, Assoc Prof Dr Lim Yang
Mooi, Asst Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, and Asst Prof Dr Tang Pek Yee.
The
visit by the team from Nanyang Polytechnic explored possible collaborations
in staff and student exchanges, internship opportunities and joint research
possibilities in areas such as; natural products and drug discovery for stem
cell and cancer research, Bioinformatics for cancer grading and diagnosis,
PKC-structural modelling and docking system, red rice for cholesterol and
several other healthcare based initiatives for further discussions.
