Five
delegates from Feng Chia University (FCU), Taiwan visited UTAR Sungai Long
Campus on 12 December 2013. They were President Prof Lee Bing-Jean, Dean of
International Affairs Office Prof Liu Pei, Dean of Student Affairs Office Dr
Peng Ter-Chao, Secretary of Alumni Liaison and Job Placement Prof Wang Hsin
and Secretary of International Affairs Dr Li Te-Ming.
On
hand to welcome them from UTAR were President Ir. Prof Academician Dato' Dr
Chuah Hean Teik, Institute of Management and Leadership (IMLD) Prof Cheng
Ming Yu, Faculty of Management and Accountancy Dr Ong Seng Fook, Division of
Community and International Networking Director Dr Tan Sin Leng, Division of
Corporate Communication and Public Relations Director Ong Soo Weon, Centre
for Extension Education (CEE) Director Lim Guat Yen, Department of Student
Affairs Head Loh Nyuk Leung and UTAR staff.
The
objective of the visit was to discuss and explore the possibility of mutual
co-operation between the two universities. The programme included a video
presentation on UTAR's history and milestones and the exchange of souvenirs.
"I am
grateful to collaborate with FCU in areas such as student exchange,
short-term courses and the new village project," said Prof Chuah in the
meeting and emphasised that the community project is a great success in
training the students and helping the local community.
After
a brief introduction on FCU and his colleagues, Prof Lee mentioned that FCU
students could take part in a short-term course or internship in a Taiwan
investor's company in Malaysia. He also added that there are many FCU alumni
in Malaysia and that students gained global perspective while studying or
doing internship abroad.
Dr
Peng suggested that students from both universities could work together on a
community project either in Malaysia or Taiwan or other country to
experience and learn about the diverse cultures in the globalised community.
Lim
introduced the part-time courses and study tours organised by CEE and
welcomed FCU's students participation in the programmes while Prof Cheng
presented IMLD's role and encouraged administrative staff from FCU to join
its management and leadership development training.
