on the World Diabetes Health Campaign at the FMHS entrance
UTAR
Centre for Research on Non Communicable Disease (CRNCD) organised a Diabetes
Day Health Campaign in conjunction with the World Diabetes Day on 3 November
2013 at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), Sungai Long campus.
The half-day event, in collaboration with Hope on Wheels, a non-profit
mobile health promoter aimed to raise the awareness on the management and
prevention of diabetes mellitus.
Lecturers and students from FMHS set up numerous booths to provide visitors
with information on diabetes prevention plan and health management. There
were talks on "Healthy Lifestyle" by CRNCD Chairperson Prof Dr Shelly Soo
and "Eye Complication of Diabetes" by Prof Dr Jenny Parameshvara Deva from
FMHS Department of Surgery. There were also posters on display sponsored by
Eli Lilly Malaysia Sdn Bhd, free eye assessment, foot care session, weight
management and healthy food display to promote health awareness.
Other
health services provided on that day were the free health screening by the
Hope on Wheels team and consultations with representatives from Sg Long
Hospital and GTF Retail Sdn Bhd.
"The
campaign was a success. It depicted the immense teamwork, cooperation, and
dedication put in by FMHS lecturers and students," said the Organizing
Committee Chairperson Woo Li Fong who was glad that the event had received
good response from UTAR community and the public
