UTAR offers its warmest congratulations to its President, Ir. Prof. Academician Dato' Dr Chuah Hean Teik on his Honorary Doctor of Engineering (Hon.D.Eng) conferred by Multimedia University on 25th August 2013 during the University's convocation.

The Honorary Doctorate of Engineering is Multimedia University's most eminent award. It is reserved for individuals who have either displayed immense proficiency in the field, introduced valuable new engineering knowledge, or had implemented key initiatives that would ensure that the engineering field would further flourish well into the next generations.

Prof Chuah was the Founding Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Multimedia University who, in May 1997, laid the foundations that enabled Multimedia University engineering graduates to stand proud among the best engineers. As Founding Dean, Prof Chuah made several key decisions, introducing bold, cutting edge programmes essential for future technologies, such as nanotechnology and optical engineering.

Between May 1997 and January 2008, Prof Chuah was actively involved in the design of the curricula for 15 engineering programmes; 10 at Bachelor level, 3 at Master's and 2 at Doctoral level. He went to great lengths to foster excellent working relations between academia and the industry, ensuring that graduates meet industry requirements and more; resulting in graduates gaining good reputation and being highly sought after by employers.

Prof Chuah's foresight and passion for the future of engineers led him to a long list of achievements opening up new frontiers in engineering as an educator, researcher and technical leader. He is a strong proponent of engineer mobility and mutual recognition of engineering and professional degrees within Asia and the Pacific region. Prof Chuah was Past President of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and is currently the President of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific.

In recognition of his service, undertakings and achievements in the field of engineering, Multimedia University has honoured Prof Chuah with the Honorary Doctorate of Engineering. In conferring this doctorate, Multimedia University also recognizes that Prof Chuah has a lot to teach not only to engineers, but anyone who yearns to live a fulfilling life.

Congratulations to our President on this momentous achievement.
