Through a video presentation, the visitors gained insights into UTAR, its
background and milestones while waiting for the arrival of UTAR Council
Chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik. Accompanying Tun Ling were UTAR Planning and
Development Committee advisor Tan Sri Hew See Tong and UTAR Council member
Hew Fen Yee.
In his
opening address, Tun Ling conveyed appreciation towards the myriad of
altruistic benefactors who have contributed to UTAR and to the betterment of
society. He avowed, "UTAR would not be what it is today without the help,
foresights and munificence of these people." He also expressed his hope that
parents of the students, who are mainly Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)
candidates, would consider enrolling their offspring in UTAR for further
education.
