A group of lecturers and students from Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus
Ipoh visited UTAR Perak Campus on 13 Aug 2014.
The IPG delegates were Deputy Head of the Department of Languages Kuan Kar
Foong, Head of Department of Chinese Studies Chin Yook Moi, nine lecturers
from the Department of Chinese Studies and its students.
On hand to welcome them was the UTAR Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) team
which comprised ICS Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Dr Wong Wun Bin, Dr Lim Chee Men,
Head of Department of Chinese Studies for Perak Campus Mok Tuck Hau, other
ICS members and students.
In addition to the campus tour, the IPG Ipoh delegates aimed to foster
closer ties with the University through exploring possible collaborations
and to know more about educational opportunities especially at UTAR-ICS.
In his welcome address, Dr Wong shared nuggets of advice gleaned from his
teaching experiences and elaborated on professional dedication in teaching
and learning. He added, “IPG Ipoh is near our Perak Campus, so interaction
and exchange between the lecturers and students of both schools can be more
frequent.”

Representing the IPG Ipoh group, Kuan said that, “UTAR has a good reputation
in academia and industry. We are glad to have the opportunity to visit UTAR
Perak Campus to know more about the programmes, lecturers and campus
environment.” She added that both parties; UTAR and IPG Ipoh could
collaborate for mutual benefits and cited an example whereby ICS graduates
who are keen to teach can do their diploma in education at IPG and IPG
graduates who wish to pursue post graduate studies can do so at UTAR.
Both Mok and Chin each did a presentation on their respective departments.
Their presentations covered the common topics on overview of the department,
programmes, student activities, publications and others.
The Q&A session that followed after the presentations saw lively
interactions and sharing of thoughts which paved the way for effective
communication and closer ties between both parties.
Students from both parties showcased their talents by putting up superb
performances in music, song and poetry which garnered thunderous applause
from the audience. The ICS student performances included the zither playing,
opera vocal performance and the peacock dance. For the IPG Ipoh students,
their performances included poetry recitation, sign language and singing
performances with Ukulele accompaniment.
