UTAR
and Takaful Ikhlas Berhad inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a
mutually beneficial collaboration on the sponsorships of excellent student
awards, information transfer on the concept of Takaful and entrepreneurship
opportunities with the University students. The event was held on 26
November 2014 in the Sg. Long Campus.
Present at the MoU signing were the teams from UTAR and Takaful IKHLAS
Berhad. The UTAR team comprised President Ir. Prof Academician Dato’ Dr
Chuah Hean Teik, Dean of Faculty of Business and Finance Prof Dr Choong Chee
Keong, Dean of Faculty of Accounting and Management Dr Ong Seng Fook,
Director of Division of Corporate Communication and Public Relations Ong Soo
Weon, and support staff as well as lecturers and students.
From
the Takaful IKHLAS team were Chief Executive Officer of Takaful IKHLAS Tuan
Haji Ab. Latiff bin Haji Abu Bakar, Senior Vice President and Head of Agency
Tuan Haji Wan Rosli Shaharuddin Wan Yaacob, Senior Vice President and Head
of Actuarial Services Kau Kong Hoi, Senior Vice President and Chief
Corporate Services Officer Yushida Husin, agency managers and other Takaful
IKHLAS personnel.
The
MoU was signed by UTAR President Ir. Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean
Teik and Chief Executive Officer of Takaful IKHLAS, Tuan Haji Ab. Latiff bin
Haji Abu Bakar and witnessed by Prof Dr Choong and Tuan Haji Wan Rosli.
Prof
Chuah in his speech at the signing ceremony said,” “The collaboration
between UTAR and Takaful Ikhlas Berhad will benefit our students
particularly those from the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF), Faculty
of Accountancy and Management (FAM) and Faculty of Engineering and Science
(FES). It will be the best training, distribution and consultancy resource
for them to better understand the aspect of Takaful. The partnership will
enable the students to undergo their industrial training with Takaful IKHLAS
and hence sharpen their knowledge further through field trips and two-way
tours between the staff of both organizations for research and academic
purposes." He also thanked Takaful IKHLAS for collaborating with the
University to raise the awareness levels of takaful protection and enhancing
entrepreneurship opportunities for the students.
Tuan
Haji Ab Latiff added that,” Signing an agreement with UTAR is one of our
approaches with the aim of providing a better understanding and awareness to
UTAR students regarding Takaful. The process of searching for knowledge and
getting Takaful products should not just be limited to Muslims; in fact it
is open to all races and religions.” He also elaborated that Takaful IKHLAS
is sponsoring the five excellent student awards in the field of Islamic
Finance, Islamic banking and insurance. The awards aimed to recognise
students who have shown excellent performance in the said subjects of study.
The award sponsorship is a long term initiative under the Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) programme, named as “IKHLAS Untuk Komunti” for the
education segment.
The
event that followed after the signing ceremony was a talk by Tuan Haji Ab.
Latiff and Kau to lecturers, staff and students. They spoke on topics that
included the concept of Takaful, internship opportunities, talent
development, income earning potential and the support for the
entrepreneurial programme as well as the significance of technical ‘know-
how’ and ‘technical know-who’.
After
the talk, the students and lecturers were treated to a sumptuous lunch which
was sponsored by Takaful IKHLAS.
