UTAR welcomed the delegation from the Kuwait National Bureau for Academic
Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) at Sungai Long Campus
on 16 June 2014.

The delegates headed by NBAQ Deputy Director General Dr Muthana Alrifai
consisted of Kuwait University College of Engineering and Petroleum Dean
Prof Husain Alkhiat, Public Authority for Applied Education and Training
College of Business Studies Dean Dr Adnan Alali, and Kuwait Cultural Office
(Australia) Director Dr Ammar Alhusaini.
On hand to receive the delegates were UTAR Vice President Prof Dr Ewe Hong
Tat, Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research Director Prof Dr Faidz
bin Abd Rahman, and Faculty of Engineering and Science Dean Prof Ir Dr Yow
Ho Kwang. Among other UTAR staff present were Faculty of Accountancy and
Management (FAM) Deputy Dean (Academic Development & Undergraduate
Programmes) Ng Kean Kok, FAM International Business Head of Department
Alexander Tay Guan Meng. Division of Strategy Planning, Performance
Monitoring and Audit Director Yim Lin Heng, Division of Exams, Awards and
Scholarships Director Puan Nik Zaitun, Division of Quality Assurance
Director Loh Siaw Yien, Division of Programme Promotion Director Lee Choy
Fong, Division of Corporate Communication and Public Relations Director Ong
Soo Weon, Student Affairs Head Loh Nyuk Leong and programme promotion staff
Edwin Teh and Tan Yew Way.
The visit started with a welcome introduction to the University by Prof Ewe
followed by an introduction of the delegates by Dr Muthana Alrifai and
subsequently the corporate video presentation. This was followed by
presentations from Alex Lee, Prof Faidz and Ms Loh Nyuk Leong. The visitors
were briefed on the key information of the university’s research and post
graduate programmes, student services and facilities, quality assurance and
recognition of programmes offered.
The briefings led to further discussions on UTAR postgraduate programmes and
the various fields of studies. The delegates posed several questions, among
which were questions on the set-up of the University, its management, staff
qualifications and experience and composition of students. The visitors were
brought on a tour of the Sungai Long Campus before leaving. Overall it was a
fruitful fact-finding mission for the delegates.
