Two
delegates from the Kansai University of International Studies (KUIS),Japan,
Associate Prof Yumiko Iijima and the Manager of International Affairs Ryoji
Sakai visited UTAR at the Petaling Jaya Campus on 12 May 2014.
On
hand to welcome them was the UTAR team which comprised Vice President ( R&D
and Commercialisation) Prof Ir Lee Sze Wei, Division of Community and
International Networking Director Dr Tan Sin Leng and Division of Programme
Promotion Director Alex Lee Choy Fong.
Sakai
introduced the concept of ‘Asian Cooperative Program (ACP)’ consortium which
is a Japanese government-led collaborative initiative with the Japanese
universities to bring more international students to study in Japan. He added
that KUIS is spreading its wings to the ASEAN region by exploring more ASP
collaborative opportunities with countries like Indonesia, the
Philippines,Laos and Vietnam. There was a lively exchange about the ACP
which provided opportunities for UTAR students to do specialised courses
such as safety management in KUIS as well as learning in ‘global classrooms’
which consist of students from ACP joint member universities and KUIS.
The
possibility of bringing KUIS students for the English Immersion programme at
UTAR was also discussed. Dr Tan said,” Through the programme, the KUIS
students will be exposed to the multi-cultural diversity of Malaysia and the
unique experience of living and studying in the UTAR lakeside campus,
located in the former tin mining town of Kampar,Perak.”
The
meeting ended with the presentation of souvenirs by both parties and a
photography session.
