Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine TCM Talent Project

Six UTAR academics from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science Department of Chinese Medicine were the pioneer batch of participants under the China-ASEAN Training Centre of Traditional Medical Talent Project by Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine (GXUCM) at Guangxi, China from 21 to 30 September 2014.

The group, comprising lecturers Dr Chong Wan Kuan, Ooi Ciat Hui, Yap Yau Pin, Chin Mei Yue, Chong Kuen Yen and Ling Ying Sia attended the nine-day training on lecture demonstration as well as clinical skills. The training syllabus included materials such as Foundation Theories of Chinese Medicine (中医基础理论), Archaic Chinese Medical Literature (医古文), Different Theories of Chinese Medicine (中医各家学), Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸学), Tui-na of Chinese Medicine (推拿学) and more.

The participants also attended lectures by erudite professors; namely, Prof Dai Ming (铭教授), Prof Liu Yanping (刘燕平教授), Prof Fang Xianming (显明教授), Prof Jiang Xiao (蒋筱教授) and others who demonstrated how teaching could be improved by the integration of several skills for a more interesting lesson.

Upon completion of the training, the lecturers were highly commended by the Director of Office of Academic Affairs, Prof Tang Meiwen (唐梅文教授) for their excellence in delivering lectures. Prof Tang also hoped that the participants will keep up their efforts, and welcomed them to visit Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine again for other short-term training programmes.

The lecturers also expressed their elation on the training and they have benefitted greatly from the training to learn more teaching techniques from the experts at Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine.

They were awarded certificates by Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine Vice President Prof Dai Ming and Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine Faculty of International Education Dean Prof Jiang Jichang (蒋基昌教授).
