A
delegation from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and Chang Jung

2014.

“Your
visit to UTAR is an honour and pleasure to us. We would certainly be keen to
explore new collaborations for both our staff and students,” remarked Prof
Chuah, who gave an overview of the University’s history, background and
research and development activities. “Besides providing the students
education and training, we also play a pivotal role to encourage them to
continue contributing to the society, economy and nation,” he continued.
Impressed by UTAR’s remarkable growth in a span of 12 years, Dr Hwung
extended his warm welcome to UTAR students to further their postgraduate
studies at NCKU. “The former tin-mining lakes surrounding this campus make
it ideal for collaboration in aquaculture,” said an amused Dr Hwung, who
also mentioned that NCKU is actively researching on solar energy.
Equally amazed by UTAR’s effort in promoting internationalisation and
academic development, Dr Sun encouraged further collaboration between CJCU
and UTAR such as recognition of subject credits earned by students of both
institutions. He said, “CJCU has more than 30 departments and colleges
offering a variety of programmes. We have around 600 postgraduate students
and it will be relevant for both institutions to have joint collaborations,”
he mentioned.
The
meeting session also saw deans and representatives of faculties introducing
themselves and the on-going research projects that have potential to spark
joint collaborations with NCKU and CJCU.
“I
believe we can start by identifying prospective areas for collaborations and
it is important too to involve the industry partners as well as the alumni
association in Malaysia,” Prof Chuah concluded.
The
meeting ended with a souvenir presentation followed by a tour around the
campus.
