Faculty of Accountancy and Management Department of International Business
invited Professor Prem Ramburuth, an external examiner, to give a talk
titled “Skills Sets Required for the Changing Local and Global Business
Environment”.
Prof Prem is the president of the Academic Board and Professor International
Business at the University of New South Wales and has forty years of
teaching experience. The talk was held at KA 805, Sungai Long Campus on 6
August 2015. Present at the talk was Head of Department of International
Business Alexander Tay Guan Meng.
Prof Prem started the talk by asking the students their goals and future
dream jobs. Later on she explained about the skill set needed to be
successful in today’s changing labor market.
“Communication skills are important in the business field. You can’t relate
to people if you can’t communicate the knowledge. Companies are looking at
people who are able to do the research and talk about it. This is also the
reason why soft skills are important,” said Prof Prem. She also related the
implication for the workplace and social dynamics in terms of cultural
diversity and cultural literacy. The talk ended with a Q&A session.
