Various performances from UTAR
students
Organised by
students undergoing the Department of Soft Skills Competency’s Arts and
Cultural Performance Project co-curricular subject, the event aimed to
expose the UTAR community and the new village communities with the many
different traditions and cultural influences in Malaysia. Apart from the
multiculturalism in Malaysia, the event was also aimed to impart the
knowledge of other traditions and cultures through the participation of
UTAR’s international students who came from various regions around the
world.
MCA Kampar
Division Deputy Chairman Chang Gwo Chyang, representing Deputy Minister of
Ministry of International Trade and Industry Dato’ Lee Chee Long, gave the
opening address which reinforced UTAR’s focus on cultural and global
exchange as a necessary value for its students, faculty, society, and
economy.
Organising
Chairperson Tan Zhi Yin in his address extended his warm welcome and
gratitude to everyone for their kind presence and support. The Year Two
Agricultural Science student also introduced the cultural project and its
goal to endorse multiculturalism and unity among Malaysians.
Also present
at the event were UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni
Relations Assoc Prof Dr Teh Chee Seng, Chairman of MCA Kampung Timah Branch
Tham Cheng Soon, Headmistress of SJK (C) Kampung Timah Lee Fong Foon, UTAR
staff, students, and members of the public.
The colourful
evening saw more than 20 lively performances from UTAR’s local and
international students. The students succeeded in portraying the local
cultures of the Malay, Chinese, and Indian people.
