UTAR hosted a visit by the Elite Study In Taiwan (ESIT) Programme delegates
on 25 June at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. This visit is part of Taiwan’s
Ministry of Education focus on internationalization by encouraging more
students in Southeast and South Asia to pursue postgraduate studies in
Taiwan.
The delegation led by Dr Wan-Lee Cheng and Dr. Yung-Tsan Jou of ESIT, were
accompanied by Director of Education Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural
Office Malaysia, To-Ming Chu, Deputy Director Yi-Ken Liao and project
manager, Annie Sui. Also present at the meeting were Tan Sri Lau Yin Pin,
UTAR Council member Hew Fen Yee, and KOJADI Director, Datuk Lim Si Cheng.
“It’s great to be here, and I’m very honoured to visit this new campus
building. I’m very excited and look forward to collaborate and work on
higher education projects with UTAR”, said Dr Cheng with a smile.
“To facilitate international talent mobility, The Southern Sunshine
Scholarship (SSS) programme is a joint initiative by the ESIT Programme
Office, which was designed for the candidates from Southeast and South Asia
region who are interested in coming to Taiwan to pursue postgraduate studies
with 57 finest participating ESIT Consortium universities”, he added.
Besides Chinese-instructed programmes, English-instructed programmes of
study are also available for various diciplines from science to arts.
Financial support or tuition waiver for qualified candidates for up to two
years for master's and four years for doctoral depending on the programme
are also offered by ESIT Consortium universities.
The discussion also saw the potential collaboration on technical and
vocational training for TARUC and KOJADI Institute students.
After the meeting, Dr Cheng and Dr Jou gave an ESIT presentation to UTAR
students at the multi-purpose hall to introduce the various programme
offerings by the ESIT consortium of universities.
The Elite Study In Taiwan (ESIT) Programme Office is commissioned by the
Ministry of Education and is located at Chung Yuan Christian University in
Chungli, Taoyuan -a mid-size city in northern Taiwan. Its purpose is to
provide necessary services for the higher education cooperation that exists
between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries as well as to create new
opportunities.
