FEGT and LKC FES IAP visit

UTAR Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT) and the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) jointly organised an Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) Meeting recently at UTAR Kampar Campus.

Chairing the meeting was FEGT Dean Dr Yap Vooi Voon, who along with other FEGT and LKC FES Deputy Deans, Heads of Departments and academics cordially welcomed the IAP members. The delegation comprised Johnson Controls (M) Sdn Bhd Director Ir Shum Keng Yan, Techkem Water Sdn Bhd General Manager Chew Chun Ming, LSS-Academy Sdn Bhd Consultant Dr Sitt Chee Keen, Technip Geoproduction (M) Sdn Bhd Head of Package Equipment Department Ir Low Chew Eow, Jotun (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Regional Planning Manager, Ir Tan Huck Tee, TNB Research Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dr Ir Cheong Kam Hoong, Former General Manager of Unisem Advanced Technologies Sdn Bhd Lau Siong Cho, Osram Opto Semiconductor (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Dr David Lacey, O.Y.L. R&D Center Sdn Bhd General Manager Dr Chin Wai Meng, Dialog Group Berhad President and Chief Operating Officer Ir Chan Yew Kai, and Kumpulan ABEX Sdn Bhd Senior Product Development Manager Tey Tuan Chin.

Dr Yap and LKC FES Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Lai Soon Onn apprised the members of the faculties’ latest updates, followed by an overview of FEGT and LKC FES’s current programmes. To further spur productive discussions, the 12 IAP members were then divided into four groups with each joining a discussion group arranged according to departments and programmes sharing similarities. Impressed by the faculties’ dedication and commitment in constantly improving the programmes to groom competent, all rounded graduates, the IAP members suggested the faculties to work closely with the industries to open doors of opportunities, and at the same time, allowing the industries to learn about UTAR’s potential.

“The faculties will continue to work closely with the industries to improve the programmes and student learning outcome,” remarked Dr Yap, who also extended his gratitude to the members for the essential input.

The annual meeting is part of the commitment by the faculties to ensure that the excellence and requirement of UTAR’s engineering programmes are met.
