In support of community service

UTAR Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) and Frog Asia Sdn Bhd organised two different community programmes at the Creative Learning and IT Centre (CLiC) located at UTC Sentul on 13 September 2015.

The first programme titled “Fun and Maths Science” was conducted by a group of ten DSSC students enrolled in the co-curriculum unit Communication Skills (Oral Communication). There were forty participants of various races from Standard One to Standard Four from various schools in Sentul who joined the interactive activities that were divided into two sessions: Maths Session, and station games session which combined Science and Maths concepts.

In addition, another group of ten DSSC students organised a programme titled “Creative Mask Arts Workshop” on the same day at the centre. They taught the students from various schools the steps to create and design a mask.

Puan Rahiza Dalik, the team Coordinator of Frog Asia Sdn Bhd thanked UTAR for volunteering in this community programme. She added, “It is not easy to encourage and educate people about the importance of the community service and the spirit of charity. That’s why it’s good to involve the youths in community programmes to inculcate the values of sharing and serving. We should not only promote the importance of good education and high achievement but also the values that it brings.” She looks forward to UTAR’s continuous support in more community programmes.

DSSC also advocates such involvement by students because this is the best way to educate them on the importance of good communication skills when interacting with people. There will be more of such interactive activities organised by DSSC. The next programmes will involve students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Centre for Foundation Studies.
