Adapting to change

A workshop based on the book Who Moved My Cheese? An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life; was conducted by Insight Center’s Hany Cheng on 20 November 2015 at UTAR Sungai Long campus.

It describes going through change in one's work and life, represented by the reactions of two mice and two people during their hunt for cheese. Cheese is a symbolic representation of an object, a goal that the individual wants to achieve.

Noticing the cheese supply dwindling, the mice were not surprised and were mentally prepared to hunt for other cheese. The humans however, were shocked until one of them decided to look while the other chose to live in denial.

“Change can trigger emotions, cause anxiety and make you feel uncomfortable because it is not something you used to”, Cheng added.

“If we continue to be like the human, our goals will not be achieved. We cannot escape from change in life, it is essential for an individual’s self-development”, she continued.

The participants were tasked to list down the biggest life changes in the past month and discuss them during the workshop.
