UTAR squad at TARUC Penang Campus

A sports exchange was organised by UTAR from 3 to 7 October 2015. Besides UTAR, this event involved Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) Penang Campus.

Present at the event were TARUC (Penang branch) Head Teoh Eng Hock, Sports Coordinator Lim Poh Keng, and 12 teams from four universities. UTAR went up against the other three universities in basketball, table tennis, futsal, and badminton contests.

The goals of the event were to let UTAR teams gain more experience for upcoming competitions and tournaments and to reward UTAR teams for training diligently, winning medals for UTAR, and uplifting UTAR’s good name among higher education institutions.

The sports exchange officially commenced at 9.30am on the second day. Badminton and futsal matches between UTAR and UniMAP took place earlier in the day, while the basketball match with UniMAP and the badminton match with UUM started around seven in the evening.

“It’s undeniable that UTAR badminton team was stronger than I expected. They played really well and we enjoyed watching the games very much,” said Ching, UTAR table tennis player.

Basketball, table tennis, futsal, and badminton showdowns between UTAR and TARUC were carried out on the fourth day. UTAR participants were treated like VIPs as they received a warm welcome and great support by TARUC. On the fifth day, the UTAR teams indulged in sightseeing around Penang before heading back to Sungai Long.
