Division of
Community and International Networking welcomed a visit from the National
Cheng Kung University (NCKU) at Sungai Long Campus on 18 September 2015.
This event
saw the presence of NCKU President Prof Su Huey-Jen,UTAR President Ir Prof
Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, NCKU Alumni Division Chairman Prof
Shaw Shyh-Yu, UTAR Vice President (Internationalisation and Academic
Development) Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, UTAR Vice President (R&D and
Commercialisation) Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, Faculty of Medicine and Health
Sciences Dean Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng, Faculty of Engineering and
Science Dean Prof Ir Dr Goi Bok Min, Faculty of Creative Industries Dean Dr
Chin Yee Mun, Division of Community and International Networking Director Dr
Tan Sin Leng, Institute of Chinese Studies Dr Chong Siou Wei, and Faculty of
Accountancy and Management Dean Dr Ong Seng Fook.
In Prof
Chuah’s thanksgiving speech, he expressed his satisfaction in seeing the
student exchange programmes with Taiwanese universities come to fruition.
“We would definitely consider encouraging more students to go overseas to
gain more exposure to diverse cultures and foster social networking with
overseas students,” mentioned Prof Chuah. Moreover, staff also stood a
chance to go for overseas exchange in Taiwan.
“Universities
in Taiwan have experienced a positive growth in the number of international
students and the number has been distributed equally to every university.
Therefore, NCKU has benefited from this and we are looking for more
opportunities to collaborate with UTAR,” stated Prof Su. Furthermore, Prof
Su added that more joint researches have also been carried out by NCKU with
other foreign universities, especially UTAR.
After that,
Dr Tan introduced the New Village Community Project which involved
collaboration between UTAR and the University System of Taiwan (UST) to Prof
Su. “This New Village Community Project lasted for a fine 10 days and has
created more possibilities for the two organisations to cooperate more
closely, besides exposing the UST students with Malaysia’s unique cultures
found in the villages,” said Dr Tan.
The
visit wrapped up with an exchange of souvenirs.
