ICT's role in transforming society

Kampar Campus’ Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) organised a talk titled “ICT: Transforming People and Organisations” on 6 April 2016.

Delivered by Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) Dean Assoc Prof Dr Liew Soung Yue, the talk was aimed to give insights about how ICT is the main development in peoples’ lives in this era. Present at the talk were FICT Department of Computer Science Head Dr Ooi Boon Yaik, FICT Department of Computer and Communication Technology Head Dr Goh Hock Guan, CFS (Kampar Campus) Director Tan Lee Siew, lecturers, staff, and Foundation students.

During the talk, Dr Liew introduced the major courses in FICT where the students can explore, discover, and polish their skills in ICT for their future career. He also added, “ICT is indeed transforming our lives as people nowadays live with computers and smartphones. We cannot avoid ICT because we use the internet to get information, make bill payments, watching videos, do online shopping, look for jobs and much more. ICT also plays the main role as a platform for young entrepreneurs to expand their business opportunities globally. ”

He also shared some FICT alumni success stories, recognition of skills, and awards, to inspire the students to be passionate in facing any challenge and learning by following the development of technology. He encouraged the students to start exploring and creating new and innovative applications or designs that may positively impact society in future.
