resounding success. “It gives me great pleasure to attend a student event
where I am able to feel the vibrancy and also witness the creativity of our
students. I am especially intrigued by the theme of this evening’s event
which is a showcase of sprightly performances of the 24 Festive Drum and
also Chinese culture,” remarked Tun Ling.
He added, “In UTAR’s pursuit to be a premier
university, our mission is to provide holistic education to develop
all-rounded individuals who are not just technically and academically
competent, but also wise to apply their newfound knowledge and skills to
benefit the community and nation. Being educated at UTAR not only allows
students to be equipped with academic knowledge and competency learnt within
classrooms, but also leads to the development of emotional intelligence
through extracurricular activities and essential soft skills training. Our
event tonight is indeed a product of the university’s holistic approach to
education and this is in line with the university’s six pillars of
education.”

Elated at the encouraging turnout, Organising
Chairperson Lim Woei Shyang expressed his gratitude to everyone for their
kind presence and support. He added, “Sensation in March 2016 is the very
first 24 Festive Drum Concert held in UTAR. The committee and the drummers
took nearly a year of preparations for the concert, for the purpose of
promoting the culture of 24 festive drums around Kampar and in our campus.
The concert is also aimed to represent the creative inspiration and the
sincerity of the drummers to awaken the sound of drum rhythms in every
individual’s heart. Besides promoting the culture of 24 festive drums,
through this concert we would also like to raise funds for purchasing more
drums.”
In his speech, Dr Teh said, “Tonight’s showcase
is special because many people, especially UTAR students, have put in effort
into the preparation and planning to make this event successful. Therefore,
my heartfelt congratulations to the organising committee for their hard work
in making Sensation in March 2016 a reality.”
Sensation in March 2016 saw the innovative
integration of Chinese cultural elements into the fabric of the event.
Marking the start of the event was an energetic 24 Festive Drum performance
by UTAR Wushu Club members. Apart from the spectacular welcoming
performance, UTAR Wushu Club members also put up a total of six enthralling
performances with different themes such as social problems, an
interpretation of different ethnic cultures, as well as the hitting and
playing of percussion drums which garnered thunderous applause from the
audience. The six inspiring performances, namely “Unforgettable Feud”,
“Rhythm of Soul”, “Illusion”, “Back Down”, “That’s Why We Are Drummers”, and
“The Sensation”, were all composed and choreographed by UTAR Wushu Club
