The “UTAR Alumni Get Together with President” in conjunction with Merdeka celebrations was organised by the Department of Alumni Relations and Placement at Block KA South Lobby, Sungai Long Campus on 6 August 2016.

Present at the gathering was UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, alumni, students and staff.

The objective of the event was to congregate alumni networks; expand and exchange information for updates, improvements and progress; and foster the concept of togetherness. Apart from that, in conjunction with the Merdeka celebrations, this gathering was held for all to be reminded of our country’s achievements and the need to stay united despite our diverse backgrounds, religions and cultures.

Prof Chuah mentioned, “It is important to continuously improve ourselves so we can better progress, but it is also important to respect each other and to contribute your talents and skills to the community. I look forward to the next alumni gathering as it continues to be a cherished tradition.”

“I urge the younger generation to embrace new technology as it helps us to move further and to stay relevant in the competitive global platform. Remember to always work smart and dare to dream and go for your dreams,” said Lim, who graduated with a Bachelor of Marketing in 2008.

Japanese interns Sayaka Asai, Nanami Akiyama and Shiho Izuta said, “We are glad to have the opportunity to witness such a gathering and celebration at UTAR Sungai Long Campus as we love interacting with students. It helps us to understand the history of Malaysia as well as the differences in its cultures and religions.”

The alumni went for a campus tour after the lunch gathering before the event adjourned.
