UTAR Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) Dean
Dr Au Yong Hui Nee together with FBF staff and students warmly welcomed
delegates from Taiwan’s Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology (TCUST)
during their visit to the Kampar Campus on 19 July 2016.
The delegates consisted of Dr Kuo De-Jhen from
the Department of Health Administration, and nine of her undergraduate
students.
With hopes to promote international understanding
between the universities, the visit provided opportunities for activities
such as joint research, double degree programmes, inter-campus study tours
and student exchange programmes to be organised.
Strengthening their ties through discussion, the
meeting between FBF and the delegates foresaw the opportunity for FBF
students to obtain diversified experiences and knowledge through student
exchange programmes, and made way for TCUST students to enrol in FBF’s
programmes or internships. They also believed the study tours will enable
TCUST students to benefit through information exchanges as they participate
in FBF’s Business workshops.
Further into the discussion, FBF and the
delegates highlighted the copious possibilities offered from their joint
research programmes and believed research efforts could be expanded through
the setting up of multi-laboratories. They were confident that the joint
international case studies would contribute to better results and findings
in the research projects.
The universities expressed their positive outlook
on the collaboration and hoped to see activities such as staff exchange
programmes and research grant applications being conducted in the near
future.
Given the opportunity to enlighten the delegates
with UTAR’s holistic education, FBF also organised two classes on Corporate
Governance and Business Society, which were taught by FBF Lecturers Kuek
Thiam Yong and Tan Chun Eng respectively. FBF hoped that these classes would
offer wider perspectives into the association between business and the
healthcare administration, and that the TCUST students will in future have
the opportunity to apply their newfound knowledge.
Apart from the discussion, the visiting students
benefitted from the Cultural Exhibition that was organised by the Centre for
Extension Education, held at Heritage Hall. With demonstrations from TCUST
students, FBF students were able to gain more understanding of Taiwan’s
unique culture and cuisine.
The visit ended with Dr Au Yong presenting a
token of appreciation to Dr Kuo which was followed by a group photograph of
FBF staff and students with the TCUST delegates.
