Visit by UII

A group of eight senior academics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences from Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) visited UTAR Kampar Campus on 23 November 2016.

Led by the Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Dr Allwar, the guests from UII also included Head of the Department of Chemistry Studies Dr Is Fatimah, Deputy Head of the Department of Chemistry Studies Dr Dwiarso Rubiyanto and Lecturers Tatang Shabur Julianto, Mai Anugrahwati, Nurcahyo Iman Prakoso, Cecep Syabana Rahmatillah and Dedy Sugiharto.

Receiving the delegates on their visit to the UTAR Kampar Campus was Dean of UTAR Faculty of Science (FSc) Assoc Prof Dr Lim Tuck Meng, along with his Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Tee Chong Siang, Head of FSc Department of Biological Science Dr Nor Ismaliza bt Mohd Ismail, Head of FSc Department of Chemical Science Assoc Prof Dr Sim Kooi Mow, Head of FSc Department of Agricultural and Food Science Dr Tan Yen Nee, Head of FSc Postgraduate Degree Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Hnin Pwint Aung and FSc Lecturer Assoc Prof Dr Sim Yoke Leng.

The meeting commenced with Dr Lim’s welcoming address and presentation of the UTAR corporate video. Dr Lim elaborated on UTAR’s history, milestones and programmes, adding that “UTAR is a university by the people, for the people, with commitment towards educational excellence in teaching and research.” He thanked the guests for allocating some time to visit UTAR despite their busy schedule. He also extended an invitation to the delegates to visit the pristine UTAR Kampar Campus.

The briefings led to further discussion on UTAR’s Chemistry programme and the various research studies parked under the Faculty of Science, particularly under the Department of Chemical Science. Dr Lim and Dr Kooi Mow enlightened the guests with information on the university’s research, programmes, student services and facilities, student activities and recognition of programmes offered.  Both Dr Allwar and Dr Is Fatimah gave a detailed introduction on the UII and its Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and expressed their interest to collaborate with UTAR, particularly in relevant industries, students and staff exchanges, R&D, journal publication and joint supervision of students for dissertation. Overall it was a fruitful fact-finding journey for the delegates.

The visit ended following a guided tour around FSc which saw the delegates visiting several well-equipped laboratories as well as learning some research projects being carried out by FSc academics and students.
