Delegates from the Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU) visited UTAR
Sungai Long Campus on 17 February 2016. The purpose of the visit was
to pursue collaboration in areas such as student and staff exchanges in
cultural and language studies.
Attending on behalf of TFSU were President Prof Xiu Gang, School of Asian
and African Studies Dean Prof Shan Tirui, Department for Students’ Affairs
Director Chen Zhanquan, International Office Deputy Director Liu Binbin, and
foreign teachers Ms Radiah and Ms Maryani.
They were cordially welcomed by UTAR Vice-President for Internationalisation
and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Deputy Dean for Academic
development and Undergraduate Programmes Dr Tee Boon Chuan, Division of
Community and International Networking Director Dr Tan Sin Leng, Centre for
Extension Education Director Lim Guat Yen, Faculty of Creative Industries
(FCI), Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training David
Tneh Cheng Eng, FCI Department of General Studies Head Ira Meilitabinti
Ibrahim, FCI Department of Modern Languages Head Yogesvary a/p Alahakone,
and Division of Programme Promotion, Student Recruitment & Operations
(Sungai Long Campus) Head Hoh Swee Hai.
Prof Ewe expressed his warm welcome to all delegates from TFSU who visited
UTAR and said he was looking forward to possible future collaborations in
regards to student and staff exchanges.
Prof Xiu Gang expressed his support that TFSU welcomes UTAR students and
staff for exchanges as well as university visits for future research
partnerships. “We hope that our students are able to take part in the short
courses in UTAR to learn about different cultures in Malaysia and to improve
their English Language proficiency,” said Prof Xiu.
The meeting adjourned with an exchange of souvenirs.
