Visit by Taiwanese Deputy Education Minister

UTAR was graced by a visit from Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Education Dr Lucia S. Lin at Sungai Long Campus on 14 December 2015. The purpose of the visit was to hold a general discussion on possible collaboration between Taiwanese universities and UTAR.

The event saw the arrival of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia Education Division Director Chu To Ming, Feng Chia University International Affairs Dean Dr Liu Pei, and from the Taiwan Education Centre, CEO Beh Chew Nam, Executive Secretary Ivy See, and consultants Datuk Dr Ting Chung Cheng and Yau Teck Kong.

They were met by UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Dean Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Institute of Chinese Studies Dean Dr Chong Siou Wei, and Division of Community and International Networking Director Dr Tan Sin Leng.

Prof Chuah expressed his utmost welcome to the honourable Deputy Minister of Education of Taiwan Dr Lucia S. Lin and said he was looking forward to more meaningful collaborations with Taiwanese universities.

In her opening remarks, Dr Lin expressed her joy and gratitude in learning that there were a good number of collaborations between Taiwanese universities and UTAR. Besides, she was also delighted to learn that the second Malaysia Taiwan Higher Education Forum would be held in Malaysia around October 2016 at UTAR Kampar Campus.  Furthermore, she hoped that there would be more workshops and student exchanges between Taiwanese universities and UTAR.

After an exchange of souvenirs and a group photo session, the event concluded with a campus tour.
