Delegates from I-Shou
University (ISU) visited Sungai Long Campus on 29 June 2016. The visit aimed
to promote mutual understanding through talks and discussions on the
economies of Malaysia and Taiwan.
The ISU visiting team led by its Department of
Finance Prof Pi-Fem Hsu consisted of some 20 Master of Business
Administration (MBA) students. They were welcomed by UTAR’s Faculty of
Accountancy and Management (FAM) Head of MBA programmes Dr Pok Wei Fong
together with FAM representatives including Dean Dr Sia Bee Chuan, Deputy
Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Chong Shyue Chuan,
Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Kevin Low Lock
Teng, postgraduate students, and more.
There were three talks at the meeting, namely
“The Evolution of Malaysia’s Economy from 1957 to 2000” by FAM lecturer Ooi
Bee Chen, “Current Issues in the Economy of Malaysia” by FAM lecturer Har
Wai Mun, and “The Role of Trade in Taiwan” by Prof Hsu from ISU.
Following the talks was a discussion among the
MBA students and academics from both ISU and UTAR. Topics covered were
issues such as the economic trends in Taiwan and Malaysia, and the influence
of ASEAN on the economy of Taiwan.
