CFS cleans up school field

UTAR and SJK (C) Sungai Long staff and students after cleaning up the field

One-hundred and fifty-one UTAR staff and students volunteered to clean up SJK (C) Sungai Long’s school field on 16 July 2016. The project aimed at sprucing up the field for the school’s future sports activities and other physical education purposes.

The idea came about during a discussion on areas of possible collaboration between the school and UTAR attended by Headmaster Tay Yuh Tzong, Persatuan Ibu Bapa dan Guru (PIBG) Chairman Lee Kok Hoon, and Centre for Foundation Studies lecturers Liang Chooi Ling and Teen Soh Hong.

“One of the projects mentioned in the meeting was to clean the school field. It was not safe for students to hold activities because there were too many rocks and other hazardous items left behind after the school’s construction,” said Tay.

The project committee members Liang, Teen, Haslina Bt Ahmad Fauzi, and Ngo Siau Woon saw it as an opportunity for students to learn about community care. “We hope that students will show more concern and responsibility for the community around them,”said Liang.

Working under the immense tropical heat did not deter the volunteers, as they felt proud for reaching out and giving back to the community. “I was exhausted but the thought of the school children using this field brings joy to me,” a volunteer said.
