Yeoh sharing his experiences as an Investor Relations manager

“Attitude is the key to every success! ”This is the key message that Terence Yeoh drove home to students in his talk at UTAR’s Faculty of Creative Industries Financial Talk 2016: Delivering Values to Investors and Optimising Communication, organised by FCI’s Year Two Corporate Communications students on 18 July 2016.

Present to officiate the talk were FCI’s Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training David Tneh Cheng Eng, Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Raduan Bin Sharif, and Department of Mass Communication Head Chew Wee Lee.

The talk aimed to expose the students to the real life practices of an Investor Relations practitioner, and make the learning process of financial knowledge more dynamic and intensive. Yeoh has been actively involved in corporate legal work for 21 years, and has 12 years of experience in Investor Relations. Besides, he is renowned for his expertise in legal affairs, share registrations, and fundraising portfolio. He also enjoys equity restructuring exercises and cross-border merger and acquisition work.

Yeoh shared with the students on the responsibilities of an Investor Relations manager in IGB Corporation Berhad. He also incorporated some insightful business encounters as instances, particularly while dealing with foreign institutional investors during market downturns. “I believe that a diligent management team, together with accurate information and explanation, would make investors willing to hold through temporary blips in your company’s performance,” he said.

Furthermore, he stressed to the students that they must acquire the right attitude, be it in studies or at the workplace. In fact, he pointed out that a positive attitude and good communication skills are the only criteria he seeks when hiring staff as knowledge would be imparted by the company’s supervisors.

His talk was followed by a question and answer session where Yeoh shared his strategies on dealing with the recent stock market crisis caused by Brexit. He then showed presentation slides used by his company in their latest property acquisition in London as an example.

The faculty looks forward to more collaborative opportunities with IGB Corporation Berhad in future.”
